Will’s Journey: From U.S. Marine to Community Hero at AllThrive 365
At AllThrive 365, we believe every story matters—and Will’s story is one of resilience, service, and compassion. Originally from California, Will served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1988 to 1997, fighting the Yosemite Fire in 1990 and later working overseas in Kuwait. His commitment to service didn’t end when he returned home. Over the years, Will held a variety of jobs—from driving a handicapped-accessible bus to trimming trees in Missouri—before eventually settling in Phoenix.
A proud father of nine and grandfather to thirteen, Will and his wife also opened their home to seven foster children. In addition, he spent years caregiving for his wife’s parents before they passed. Service and family have always been at the heart of Will’s life.
Finding Community at AllThrive 365
Nine years ago, Will came to AllThrive 365’s Peoria community center seeking food assistance. Just two weeks later, he was invited to volunteer—and he’s been a cornerstone of our mission ever since. Today, Will helps serve more than 140 families each week through our food distribution program.
“For the kids who come through here, I feel like their grandpa,” Will says. “So I give them cookies and send them on their way.” His warmth and consistency have made him a beloved figure in our community. For Will, it’s never about recognition—it’s about helping others. “It’s not about me or anyone else in there—it’s about the community.”
A Commitment That Runs Deep
Will’s dedication is extraordinary. He once turned down a full-time job because it would have kept him from volunteering. “I’d take a day off work to come here,” he says. “I know I’m doing what God made me for.”
From checking in on regulars to acting as the “Vanna White” of our weekly food distribution—showcasing what’s available with a smile—Will embodies the spirit of AllThrive 365. Even though he still receives food assistance, he always waits until all families have gone through the line before seeing what’s left.
